Starting Therapy For The First Time

Starting therapy can feel like a big step. For many people, it comes after weeks, months, or even years of carrying things on their own. Filip Stanic understands that weight, and his work is grounded in helping adults feel supported, understood, and empowered as they navigate life’s challenges.

Filip is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. With over a decade of experience in social services, he has worked closely with children, youth, and families during some of their most difficult moments. That experience has shaped his calm, compassionate approach and his belief that meaningful change happens when people feel genuinely heard.

Filip works with individuals aged 18 and older, offering in-person sessions in Leduc and Calmar, Alberta, as well as virtual appointments for clients across Canada. Whether you’re seeking support locally or from the comfort of your own home, Filip strives to create a space that feels safe, respectful, and grounded in trust.

What to Expect in Therapy

Filip takes a client-centred approach to counselling. That means therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. Instead, sessions are shaped around your needs, your goals, and your pace. Filip draws from a range of evidence-based therapeutic methods, selecting tools and strategies that align with what will be most helpful for you.

Together, you’ll work collaboratively to explore what’s coming up in your life, identify patterns that may be holding you back, and build practical skills to support lasting change. Whether you’re dealing with something specific or feeling unsure where to begin, Filip meets you where you are.

Clients often describe his approach as thoughtful, steady, and non-judgmental — a place where it’s okay to be honest, uncertain, and human.

Therapeutic Approaches

Filip integrates several therapeutic modalities into his work, including:

  • Person-Centred Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Humanistic Therapy

  • Culturally Sensitive Approaches

  • Mindfulness-Based Techniques

  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

These approaches allow Filip to support both short-term goals and deeper personal growth, depending on what you’re hoping to work through.

Areas of Support

Filip provides counselling for women, men, neurodiverse individuals, and members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. He supports clients navigating a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Trauma and mood disorders

  • Stress and burnout

  • Life transitions and major changes

  • Grief and loss

  • Self-esteem and perfectionism

  • Sense of self and identity exploration

  • Personal fulfillment and development

  • Coping skills for everyday challenges

You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. Many clients come in feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected — and that’s more than enough to begin.

More Than His Work

Outside of the therapy room, Filip values connection, simplicity, and time with loved ones. His favourite colour is green, a reflection of his appreciation for growth and grounding. Sundays are often spent on nature walks with his family, recharging and enjoying slower moments together.

If he had to offer advice in just one word, it would be: love.

Taking the Next Step

Reaching out for support is an act of courage. If you’re looking for a therapist who will listen carefully, respect your experiences, and work alongside you toward meaningful change, Filip would be honoured to support you.

Appointments are available in Leduc, Calmar, and virtually across Canada.
